Andover Trees United Launches New 'Explore The Wild' Family Nature Series
Andover, Hampshire - 21st May, 2026 - A new monthly woodland programme designed to inspire young people and families to connect with nature through science, creativity and outdoor exploration is launching in Andover this spring.
Andover Trees United has announced the launch of Explore the Wild, a brand new seasonal event series led by 2026 Ecology Intern Kanchi Mehta. Taking place monthly in the charity’s woodland spaces, the sessions will encourage participants to discover more about the natural world through hands-on wildlife activities, ecological learning, observation and creative outdoor experiences.
The programme launches on Saturday 30 May 2026 with a family-friendly Spring BioBlitz, inviting participants to explore the woods using nature backpacks and identification guides to discover what species are thriving as spring comes into full bloom.
Future sessions throughout the year will include:
• Wildflower walks
• Evening bat walks and surveys
• Cyanotype “light photography” workshops
• Seasonal wildlife identification
• Nature-inspired art and science sessions
The programme forms part of Andover Trees United’s wider mission to inspire and educate young people through conservation, biodiversity and meaningful experiences outdoors.
Speaking about the launch, Kanchi Mehta said: “Explore the Wild is all about curiosity. We want people to actively notice nature and realise just how fascinating the world around them really is. These sessions combine science, creativity and exploration in a way that feels welcoming, hands-on and accessible for families.”
One of the headline summer workshops, What the Trees See, has been supported through a Grow Wild Youth Project grant from Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. The session will introduce participants to cyanotype “light photography” - an early photographic process using sunlight, natural materials and creative observation inspired by the woodland environment.
Sessions are designed primarily for families, older children and young people interested in wildlife, creativity and the environment, although some activities are suitable for all ages.
Tickets are priced at:
Adults – £4
Children – £3
Under 4s – Free
Junior Members of Andover Trees United can attend free of charge, while adult members receive a 25% discount. Organisers hope the series will encourage more families to spend time outdoors, learn about local biodiversity and build a stronger connection with nature across the changing seasons.
