Ten Thousand Children - Ten Thousand Trees
Why make a donation to our cause?
On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years. Article 12.8 states that by 2030, people everywhere should have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature, yet many children are growing up without any real understanding of what this means.
Our solution
By working with local landowners, by establishing a partnership with all schools in our community and by agreeing an ongoing planting programme with them, ALL children who go to school in our town will plant trees to benefit everyone. By supporting them, we are saying "This matters"; by providing the opportunity to work together they find they can plant not just one tree but forests. And, by providing training and outreach, we can share with others how their towns can also achieve this.
Long-term results
Locally, biodiversity is improved & opportunities provided to connect to nature. All children in our town will know how to plant trees & why it matters. Families will learn from their children about the climate crisis & the need for environmental change. Globally, our impact will be a small one but, as these young children grow and become the next generation of decision makers, they WILL have the information and awareness needed to live in harmony with nature.
What to donate?
£8.00 - Will buy 3 British native tree whips, canes and spiral guard protection or one disease resistant elm tree whip, helping us to reintroduce elm into the landscape.
£12.00 - Will buy a tree planting starter kit: bucket, trowel, gloves and a tree!
£15.00 - Will provide a day of inspirational nature-based learning for 3 young people.
£45.00 - Will allow us to transport 10 children in the Hampshire countryside to plant their trees.
£70.00 - Will buy a set of waterproof clothing and boots, allowing us to protect the young tree planters from the winter weather (not all children own outdoor clothing capable of withstanding a British winter).
£125.00 - Will transport a class of children to Harmony woods to revisit their trees and engage in a day of environmental education activities.
£400.00 - Will deliver an introductory presentation and a day of practical training for 30 community tree planters and environmental educators.
£2,300.00 - Will cover the transport costs for a year of tree planting for 1000 children.
£35,000 will fund the continued involvement of 1000 children in planting 1000 trees every year until 2025, provide opportunities to visit their woodland and support an outreach programme to other communities. The wood we plant will provide both an emotional connection to and hands-on practical learning about caring for our natural environment - a space that inspires a love of nature, teaches about the role of trees in mitigating climate change and demonstrates what can be achieved when we take action.
A donation (big or small) will go a long way to creating a harmonious woodland for children now and for children of the future.
