Four Fun Fridays Bring Joy, Creativity and Community Spirit to August
August saw the return of Four Fun Fridays, a much-loved programme of free family events that brought colour, creativity and connection to our community. Across four weeks, families came together to take part in themed activities in the sunshine, each session designed to inspire imagination, celebrate home, connect with nature, and reflect on peace.
The first week kicked off with World of Imagination, where children created magical fairy gardens. “What an amazing start to the series,” said Abbey Sadler, Community Engagement Officer. “It was so special to see so many families enjoying themselves outdoors and letting their creativity shine. Moments like these remind us just how important community events are in the current climate—they give us all a chance to connect, unwind, and celebrate what really matters.”
Week two explored There’s No Place Like Home, with families making Leafy Family Trees—nature-inspired tributes to home and loved ones. “The family trees were absolutely beautiful,” said Matt Thomas, Volunteers. “It was inspiring to see parents and children working together, chatting with others, and taking pride in their creations. These events give volunteers the chance to connect with the community too, and that’s something I always look forward to.”
The third session’s theme, Country Life, was all about celebrating nature with the making of Wildflower Seed Bombs. Children learned about pollinators, native plants, and the importance of protecting the countryside. “We loved seeing the children so engaged in learning through hands-on fun,” said Hebe Everington, Youth Programmes Officer. “It’s about sparking curiosity and helping young people build a relationship with the environment that will last a lifetime.”
The final week, themed Summer in the City, brought a thoughtful close to the series as families created Peace Doves. Children wrote messages of peace and wishes for the world, which will soon hang in Harmony Woods for the UN’s International Day of Peace. “The Peace Doves were a beautiful way to round off Four Fun Fridays,” added Abbey. “They remind us that community, kindness and hope are things we can all share, no matter what challenges we face.”
Each session was made possible thanks to the dedication of the team at TVBC, whose organisation and support ensured the events ran smoothly and were a joy to be a part of.
Looking back, the four weeks were filled with laughter, learning and togetherness. As Abbey summed up: “We’ve had a wonderful time being part of Four Fun Fridays and can’t wait to do it all again next year!”
