Join Us! Ecology Internship Available at Andover Trees United

Location: Andover, Hampshire (mix of home working and outdoor work at Harmony Woods)

Hours: Part-time, 2 days per week

Contract: 12 months starting January/February 2026

Salary: Voluntary, travel expenses covered

We are looking for the next Ecology Intern to join us at Andover Trees, a community-led environmental education and conservation charity. This 12-month internship provides hands-on experience in ecological surveying, biodiversity monitoring, and citizen science. You will also gain experience in community engagement and have the chance to manage your own biodiversity project.

As part of the ‘Nature in Harmony’ programme, you will plan and lead surveys of wildflowers, birds, pollinators, and butterflies between April and September. You will be able to deliver citizen science events throughout the spring and summer. The role also involves collaborating with staff, trustees, and volunteers on conservation and community projects.

There is also scope to gain experience in other areas of the charity’s work, including fundraising, PR and publicity, education, and event planning, allowing you to shape your internship according to your interests.

Applicants should have received a degree or vocational diploma in a relevant subject with the last five years, such as ecology, biology, environmental science, conservation, or land and wildlife management, or have equivalent practical experience. A passion for nature, a desire to share environmental knowledge, and experience or willingness to learn surveying and species identification are essential.

You will be supported by our Trustees and volunteer Management Team and will work closely with our Nature and Community Engagement Officer and Operations Manager. This role involves a mixture of desk-based and outdoor work, including some evenings and weekends.

Applicants who are also interested in our paid Youth Activities Officer role will be viewed favourably, as ideally both roles could be undertaken by the same candidate to create a full-time year-long extended internship. However, you are very welcome to apply for either role on its own. Both roles offer complementary experience across ecology, environmental education, and community engagement.
