Discover a Hidden Gem on Your Doorstep: Join Andover Trees’ February Community Conservation Day
Andover, Hampshire: 23rd January, 2026 - Did you know there’s a 44-acre nature reserve, bursting with wildlife and community spirit, right on Andover’s doorstep? This February, Andover Trees United is inviting local residents to roll up their sleeves, enjoy the great outdoors and be part of one of Andover’s most successful grassroots environmental projects.
On Saturday 15 February, from 10am to 1pm, Andover Trees will host its Monthly Community Conservation Day at Harmony Woods, a welcoming, hands-on volunteering session open to everyone.
Held on the second Saturday of every month, these community days are a brilliant way to try something new, meet like-minded people and make a real difference locally. Whether you’re looking for a New Year’s resolution that sticks, a new hobby, time outdoors, or simply a way to give back, this is the perfect place to start.
Volunteer Conservation Days are designed to be inclusive, friendly and accessible. No prior experience is needed and new volunteers are fully supported by the Andover Trees team. Activities vary by season but often include practical conservation tasks such as gardening, woodland management, habitat creation and caring for the site’s diverse landscapes, all fuelled by hot drinks, good conversation and a shared sense of purpose. Recent activities can be seen on the charity’s Digging It blog, which captures the energy and impact of these monthly sessions.
Why it matters
Volunteering with Andover Trees is about more than just getting muddy. Each session contributes directly to tackling climate change and biodiversity loss, while strengthening community connections in Andover. The site itself is home to an extraordinary mix of habitats, including native deciduous woodland, chalk grassland, wildflower meadows, hazel coppice, hedgerows and a pond, all vital for supporting a wide range of species and creating a thriving natural space for future generations.
For many, the Community Conservation Day is the first step into ongoing volunteering with Andover Trees United. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure way to see what the charity does, meet the people behind the project and decide how you might like to get involved going forward.
“People are often amazed when they discover Andover Trees for the first time,” says Abbey Sadler, Community Engagement Officer, from Andover Trees United. “This incredible space has been shaped by volunteers and the local community, and our Community Conservation Days are all about opening that up to everyone. You don’t need experience just curiosity, a willingness to have a go, and maybe some sturdy shoes. It’s a lovely way to connect with nature and with each other.”
