Green Week Brings Knights Enham and Harrow Way Together for a Sustainable Future
In a vibrant celebration of sustainability and community spirit, pupils from Knights Enham Junior School and Harrow Way Community School came together for a memorable afternoon in Diamond Woods — also known as Harmony Woods — as part of this year’s Great Big Green Week.
Organised in collaboration with Andover Trees United, the event saw mixed groups of students from both schools unite with a common goal: to take positive action for the environment. The afternoon kicked off with an energetic and purposeful litter pick, helping to preserve the natural beauty of the woodland area and reinforcing the importance of local action in global sustainability efforts.
With support from facilitators and volunteers, the young environmentalists explored not only the physical landscape but also the deeper questions around sustainability. After a well-earned break featuring fruit and cake, the students reassembled to tackle the question: How can we make our schools more sustainable?
The resulting discussions were as thoughtful as they were ambitious. From renewable energy solutions like solar panels, to ideas around recycling systems, waste reduction, and enhancing sustainability education, students proposed real, actionable steps that could shape a greener future in their school communities.
Each group presented their ideas to both peers and adults, demonstrating clear thinking, creativity, and a powerful sense of responsibility for the planet.
“It’s inspiring to see young people come together like this,” said a representative from Andover Trees United. “They are not only learning about sustainability — they are living it, sharing ideas, and taking ownership of their environment.”
The event was a shining example of what can be achieved when education and environmental stewardship come together. A big thank you goes to Knights Enham, Harrow Way, and everyone involved in making the day such a success.
The future looks just a little bit greener thanks to these incredible young changemakers.
