ATU Inspires Students at Harrow Way Community School with Wildflower Planting Session
Last week, Hebe, our newly appointed Youth Activities Officer, paid a special visit to Harrow Way Community School to kick-start an inspiring environmental initiative. On Wednesday, 22nd May, she joined forces with the school’s environmental prefects and a group of enthusiastic younger students to sow wildflower seeds as part of our Disappearing Wildflower project.

The session marked the beginning of a journey for the seeds, which will be carefully nurtured over the coming months at our allotment on Vigo Road. In October, the young plants will be transplanted to Harmony Woods, where they will help form a vibrant new wildflower meadow.
The Disappearing Wildflower project aims to combat the decline of native wildflower species while supporting pollinators and boosting biodiversity in the local ecosystem. By engaging young people in hands-on conservation work, the initiative also encourages environmental awareness and stewardship from an early age.
Hebe said, “It was brilliant to see the students so engaged with the planting process. Projects like this help young people connect with nature and understand the vital role wildflowers play in supporting our environment.”
The day was filled with learning, laughter, and muddy hands as students took pride in contributing to a greener future. The partnership between our team and Harrow Way Community School highlights the importance of community collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.
As the seedlings grow over summer, anticipation will build for their final destination in Harmony Woods. Once planted, the new meadow will provide food and habitat for bees, butterflies, and other pollinators — bringing colour, life, and ecological benefits to the area for years to come.
Stay tuned for more updates from the Disappearing Wildflower project as we continue to work together for a wilder, more vibrant future.
