Local Community Invited to Celebrate Final Year of Tree Planting at Bury Hill Meadows
Andover, Hampshire – Residents of Upper Clatford, Goodworth Clatford, Anna Valley, and Abbotts Ann are invited to join Andover Trees United for a special Community Tree Planting Day on Saturday, 22nd November 2025, from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at Bury Hill Meadows Nature Reserve, marking the culmination of a four-year project transforming former farmland into thriving young woodland.
This Community Planting Day is part of Andover Trees United’s final year of tree planting at Bury Hill Meadows, which has also included the annual Schools’ Tree Planting Season running from Monday, 10th November to Friday, 28th November 2025. Over the past four years, thousands of local schoolchildren, teachers, and volunteers have helped plant hundreds of native trees and hedgerows, turning a blank meadow into a flourishing habitat for birds, insects, and small mammals. The project forms part of Andover Trees United’s wider Harmony Woods initiative, a ten-year vision to rewild and enrich local landscapes.
The Community Planting Day is open to people of all ages, offering an opportunity to learn practical conservation skills, enjoy time outdoors, and connect with neighbours while leaving a lasting legacy on the local environment. Participants will plant native species including oak, birch, hawthorn, and field maple. All tools and materials will be provided, and complimentary hot drinks and biscuits will be available under the event gazebo. Attendees are encouraged to bring gardening gloves, wear weather-appropriate clothing, and use sturdy footwear. Parking is limited, so walking, cycling, or car-sharing is recommended.
Abbey Sadler, Project Coordinator for Andover Trees United, said:
"This day is a celebration of what our community can achieve together. Every tree planted is a step toward a healthier, greener Andover — and it’s a wonderful opportunity for families, friends, and neighbours to take part in something meaningful. Seeing young people nurture the environment over the past four years has been inspiring, and this final planting season is a chance to leave a living legacy for future generations."Wendy Davis, Founder of Andover Trees United, added:
"The transformation of Bury Hill Meadows is a testament to community-led conservation. From schoolchildren to local volunteers, everyone has played a part in creating a greener, more sustainable town. This final year is not only a celebration of what we’ve achieved but also a springboard for future projects across the Test Valley area."
No booking is required for the Community Planting Day, though organisers would appreciate advance notice of attendance. To volunteer for the planting season, for directions, or for more information, visit www.andovertrees.org.uk or contact abbey.sadler@andovertrees.org.uk.
