Wild Harmony 2025

SATURDAY 23RD AUGUST 2025 AT HARMONY WOODS

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, 23rd August for our latest Wild Harmony session at Harmony Woods. It was a magical evening spent uncovering the fascinating and mysterious world of bats.

We kicked off with refreshments and a lively bat-themed quiz to set the scene before heading into an introductory talk. Together, we explored what bats are, why we use bat detectors, and which species we might encounter in Harmony Woods—ranging from the tiny common pipistrelle to the agile Daubenton’s and the impressive noctule.

As dusk fell, we ventured into the woods, detectors in hand, and were rewarded with encounters with several species. Along the way, we learned more about their habitats and unique behaviours. The evening ended back at base with refreshments, good conversation, and plenty of bat-inspired excitement as we went over the quiz answers and shared our sightings.

Thank you again to everyone who came along—it was wonderful to connect with nature, discover more about these remarkable nocturnal creatures, and share the experience as a community. We look forward to seeing you at the next Wild Harmony event!

SATURDAY 16TH AUGUST 2025 AT HARMONY WOODS

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday, 16th August, for our latest Wild Harmony session at Harmony Woods (Diamond Woods). It was a brilliant morning filled with curiosity, discovery, and a closer look at the hidden world of insects.

We kicked off the session with some bug-hunting, armed with identification sheets, nature explorer backpacks, magnifying glasses, and plenty of enthusiasm. From butterflies and ladybirds to shield bugs and spiders, there was no shortage of fascinating finds!

After a short break, we gathered in small groups to check our pitfall traps. These gave us the chance to see which ground-dwelling insects had wandered in overnight. Sharing our findings sparked great conversations about the incredible diversity of life in the woods.

It was a joyful morning of exploration and connection with nature. We’re already looking forward to the next Wild Harmony session—hope to see you there!

SATURDAY 19TH JULY 2025 AT HARMONY WOODS

A big thank you to everyone who joined us on July 19th for our Wild Harmony event—it was a wonderful way to celebrate summer together in Harmony Woods.

We started the morning with a peaceful walk through the meadows, discovering a variety of wildflower species thriving in the chalk grassland habitat. From the vibrant lesser knapweed to the delicate bird’s-foot trefoil, we explored how to identify each plant—like spotting the Fabaceae family’s signature pea-shaped flowers.

After a relaxing tea break, we split into groups for the Big Butterfly Count. We surveyed different areas, spotting and recording butterflies while soaking in the beauty around us. Just as the rain started to roll in, we wrapped up, having shared our findings and some great conversations along the way.

It was a lovely morning of learning, connecting with nature, and community spirit. Thank you for your enthusiasm and curiosity—it truly made the day special. We look forward to seeing you at our next Wild Harmony event!

SATURDAY 17TH MAY 2025 AT HARMONY WOODS

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along to our second Wild Harmony event at the beautiful Harmony Woods this May! We were treated to glorious sunshine and the gentle sounds of nature as we gathered to explore one of the most essential parts of our landscape – trees.

The session began with an introduction to tree identification, where we learned how to recognise different species by their leaves, bark, buds, and overall shape. Our guide shared some really useful tips on how to tell trees apart, even when they’re not in full leaf – a skill that will come in handy year-round!

Armed with our new knowledge, we set off on a gentle woodland walk, tuning into the details around us. Along the way, we spotted and identified a variety of native species, including the elegant rowan with its feather-like leaves, the mighty oak with its unmistakable lobed foliage, and the spiky, flowering hawthorn, which was just coming into bloom. We also took time to appreciate the unique role each tree plays in the ecosystem, supporting birds, insects, and fungi.

It was a wonderful opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, and enjoy the simple joy of learning together in a peaceful outdoor setting. As always, the group brought such warmth and curiosity – it’s this shared enthusiasm that makes Wild Harmony so special.

We're already looking forward to the next session! Keep an eye on our socials and mailing list for updates – more Wild Harmony adventures are just around the corner.

SATURDAY 19TH APRIL 2025 AT HARMONY WOODS

This past Saturday marked a truly special moment – our first-ever Wild Harmony Session at Harmony Woods! A huge thank you to everyone who came along and made it such a joyful, inspiring day. It was the perfect way to kick off our 2025 season of citizen science events, and we couldn’t have asked for a better start.

We began the day with a gentle biodiversity walk through the woods, tuning into the sights and sounds around us. The group was treated to some incredible wildlife sightings – including the bright flash of a yellowhammer, the melodic calls of skylarks, and the rare beauty of a green-winged orchid in bloom. It was a powerful reminder of the richness of life thriving right on our doorstep.

After the walk, we gathered for a calming session of nature journaling. Surrounded by trees and birdsong, we took time to observe, reflect, and translate our experiences into sketches, notes, and creative expression. Whether through detailed illustrations or quiet written thoughts, everyone found a unique way to connect more deeply with the natural world.

Wild Harmony is all about creating space to slow down, observe, and appreciate the incredible biodiversity around us – and Saturday’s session captured that beautifully.

We're already buzzing with excitement for the next Wild Harmony event. Stay tuned – we’ll be sharing details very soon. In the meantime, thank you again to all who joined us for this first gathering. Here's to many more moments of wonder, learning, and connection.
