Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis)

On Saturday (26th June), 20 volunteer recording assistants joined project ecologist, Alex Marshall for ATU’s second Bioblitz of the year. Equipped with basic field study techniques, equipment and identification materials, the participants had around two hours to discover as many living species as possible.

Alex Marshall said “Harmony Woods is bursting with life right now and the recording assistants found a wonderful range of flora and fauna. My two favorite wildlife spots were a super cool wasp-mimicking hoverfly (yet to be identified but we think it was in the Conopidae family) on a beautiful meadow cranesbill and a pyramidal orchid!” Alex continues “One of the volunteers potentially spotted a threatened species! We have sent an image to a specialised conservation organisation so they can verify the find. Keep you eyes on our Wildlife Spot of the week on our socials for confirmation of the find.”

The data collected by the volunteer recording assistants will be added to the Nature in Harmony database and contribute to the ever-increasing knowledge about the nature in Harmony Woods.
