Nature in Harmony: July Round-up!

Despite the extremely hot weather this month, everyone has been hard at work on a huge range of projects to help record and learn about the species in Harmony Woods. I have particularly enjoyed visiting the site this month due to the amazing diversity of butterflies that can be seen feeding on nectar from the wildflowers.
Bat Walk
On the evening of the 6th July, we went for a walk through Harmony Woods with digital bat detectors to try and pick up the calls of native bat species. At around 22:00, we started detecting the calls of common pipistrelle bats hunting for insect prey overhead!
Later on, we also detected some more unusual calls which we think may have been from noctule and brown long-eared bats.

Wildlife Surveys in Harmony Woods
Surveying has been continuing throughout the month and we’ve managed to record some new species for the first time this year! Centauries, St John’s Wort and Willowherb are amongst those recently spotted by survey volunteers.
